6. Exam/Diploma:

   Those holding exam status (SAT, ACT and TQDK) have a validity period of two years from the date of the exam. GCE, IB, French Baccalaureate, and ABITUR have an unlimited period of validity.
   **Applicants who apply with GCE should enter abbreviated titles and grades of the A Level subjects into the field of "Exam Detail-Description". They can type 0 in the Numerical Score box.
   **Applicants who will not be able to get their diploma grades within application period due to COVID19 restrictions, can apply with a document indicating their expected/predicted grades. This document must be issued and certified by their high school. Applicants who applied with “Expected/Predicted Grades” will forfeit their rights to register in the event that they fail to meet the predicted grades.

Candidates who have finished a secondary education institution equivalent to a Turkish high school are eligible to apply for associate and undergraduate programs at Hacettepe University, as long as they meet the eligibility criteria.
It is of great importance for the applicants to check this page for updates until the application and placement process is completed.

Eligibility

1. Foreign nationals (provided that those who are studying in secondary education institutions (high schools) in Türkiye have enrolled before the 2022-2023 academic year [except for embassy schools, international private education institutions included in the MOBIS system and foreign nationals brought to Türkiye within the framework of the project carried out by the Ministry of National Education of Türkiye]),
2. Those who were Turkish citizens by birth but have renounced their Turkish citizenship and holders of the Blue Card issued upon request to those who have renounced their Turkish citizenship (provided that those who are studying in secondary education institutions (high schools) in Türkiye have enrolled before the 2022-2023 academic year), (According to the Turkish Citizenship Law, those who were born in Türkiye or abroad to a Turkish citizen mother or father within a conjugal union are Turkish citizens by birth. Therefore, Turkish citizens applying as an international student are advised to read the aforementioned law),
3. Those who are foreign nationals by birth but have acquired Turkish citizenship later and therefore hold dual citizenship (provided that those who are studying in secondary education institutions (high schools) in Türkiye have enrolled before the 2022-2023 academic year),
4. 1. Among Turkish nationals who attended secondary education abroad before the date of 01/02/2013, those who completed the last three years of their secondary education (high school) in a foreign country other than the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), (including those who have completed their entire secondary education (high school) in Turkish schools affiliated with the Ministry of National Education of Türkiye in a foreign country, other than the TRNC),
   2. Among Turkish nationals who started secondary education abroad after the date of 01/02/2013, those who completed their entire secondary education (high school) in a foreign country other than the TRNC, (including those who have completed their entire secondary education (high school) in Turkish schools affiliated with the Ministry of National Education of Türkiye in a foreign country, other than the TRNC),
5. Citizens of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), who reside in the TRNC and have completed secondary education in the TRNC and have GCE A Level results; and those who have been enrolled in foreign high schools abroad between 2005-2010 and have or will have GCE A Level results are eligible to apply to Hacettepe University as an international student.

Ineligibility

1. Turkish citizens who have completed their secondary education entirely in Türkiye or the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus,
2. Those who are citizens of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (except for applicants who have completed their secondary education in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus and have GCE A Level results and those who have been enrolled in foreign high schools abroad between 2005-2010 and have or will have GCE A Level results),
3. Dual citizens who are Turkish citizens by birth as specified in Article 2 of the Eligibility criteria (except for those who fulfill the conditions of Article 4);
4. Holders of dual citizenship one of which is the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (except for those who have completed their secondary education in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus and have their GCE A Level results and those who have been enrolled in foreign high schools abroad between 2005-2010 and have or will have GCE A Level results),
5. Turkish citizens who have completed their secondary education in schools affiliated to the embassies or in foreign high schools located in Türkiye; or holders of dual citizenship, one of which is Turkish by birth as specified in Article 2 of the Eligibility criteria;
6. Citizens of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, those who have renounced their Turkish citizenship/Blue Card holders and foreign nationals who have enrolled in secondary education institutions in Türkiye as of the 2022-2023 academic year are not eligible to apply to Hacettepe University as an international student.

Important Notes

1. Hacettepe University has full authority to evaluate the applications and to admit the applicants. It is at the discretion of Hacettepe University to fill the quota. Meeting the application requirements does not guarantee admission to Hacettepe University.
2. Applications with national or international test scores or certificates of secondary education, other than those listed hereby, will not be taken into consideration.
3. Applicants are not charged any application fees.
4. The application process will be conducted online and all the documents will be submitted through the application portal. Applications sent via mail/postal system or e-mail will not be taken into consideration.
5. During the registration process; applicants admitted to a program will be asked to provide the original copies of their documents. Those with discrepancies between the information provided online and the documents provided during the registration will be considered to have forfeited their right to register.
6. The applicant must provide their own email address and phone number on the application portal and be actively using them. If necessary, the applicant will be contacted by phone and/or email.
7. Eligible applicants who are shortlisted at the end of the initial evaluation will be invited for an interview with Hacettepe University’s Commission for International Student Admission; and then they will be admitted to the programs accordingly. Interviews will be conducted online.
8. Hacettepe University Board of Directors reserves the authority to carry out an additional placement after the registration process has been completed.
9. Admission to associate degree programs is based on the scores submitted and applicants are not invited for an interview.
10. Fachabitur is not recognized for international student applications.
11. It is of great importance for the applicants to check the department they are applying for; whether it is an Associate Degree program (offering a two-year education) or a Bachelor’s Degree Program (offering a four-year education), as well as the special conditions provided. Durations of the programs are indicated in the list of quotas.
12. Applicants who are admitted to a program will receive an acceptance letter from Hacettepe University, upon request.

Documents identified below must be sent online. They must be in .pdf or .jpeg format.

1. Secondary Education Certificate/High School Diploma and its translation by a sworn translator in case it is in a language other than English or Turkish. The school awarding the certificate, embassies, consulates or notaries are regarded as certifying authorities. Uncertified diplomas will not be taken into consideration.
2. Exam Scores: Validity periods of SAT, ACT and TQDK are two years from the date of the exam. Applicants who apply with SAT scores must make sure that their official score report is sent to Hacettepe University by ETS until the date of registration (Hacettepe University SAT Code: 7661)

5. A passport-sized photo (biometric) will be uploaded onto the application system.
6. Applicants who hold dual citizenship (one of which is Republic of Turkey), must submit a certificate of identity register and the photograph of the identity card,
7. Applicants who apply pursuant to the Article 4 of the eligibility criteria must submit a certified document which states the complete fulfillment of secondary education abroad (A certified document from the school graduated or a transcript covering all years must be obtained).
8. Applicants who hold Blue Card (the card given to those who renounce their Turkish citizenship) must attach a copy to their application.

* Turkish / TRNC citizens, those who have graduated from foreign high schools affiliated with the Ministry of National Education, those who hold foreign citizenship and have completed high school education in Turkey are considered to be exempt from Turkish preparatory class, and take the courses of TKD 103/104. However, if deemed necessary by the TÖMER representative, the student may be referred to the TRK 110 exemption exam. For all the other students, those who score C1 and above from the Turkish preparatory exemption exam take TRK 117/118 or TRK 101/102 courses depending on the medium of instruction in the program.

Tuition fee is paid in two installments at the beginning of each semester, except for preparatory classes and the Faculty of Medicine. For preparatory classes and the Faculty of Medicine, the annual tuition fee is paid all at once at the beginning of the academic year. The dates for tuition payment are announced on the website of the Student Affairs Office prior to the week of course registration. Those who have graduated from Turkish high schools abroad, which are determined by the Presidency of Turks Abroad and Related Communities, do not pay tuition fees within the normal education period.

APPLICATION AND REGISTRATION

1. I have studied high school in Turkey and have dual citizenship. Can I apply as an international student?

Article 7 of the Turkish Citizenship Law No. 5901. As per the provision in Article 7 of the Turkish Citizenship Law No. 5901 stating that “(1) A child born to a Turkish mother or father within the unity of marriage either in Turkey or abroad is a Turkish citizen”, you are deemed a Turkish citizen, even if you were born in a foreign country and have dual citizenship.  In this case, if you have studied high school in Turkey, your application as an international student will be considered invalid.

However, you can apply as an international student in the event of renouncing your citizenship and obtaining a Blue Card, which is an official card given to those who are Turkish citizens by birth and renounce citizenship by his/her own will.

 If you are not a Turkish citizen by birth, but acquired it later, you can apply as an international student even if you have studied high school in Turkey, by documenting your situation with a certificate of identity register.

2. I am a Turkish citizen. I have studied the first two years of high school in a foreign country and the last two years in Turkey. Can I apply as an international student?

According to the principles of the Higher Education Council (YÖK in Turkish); if you have started your high school education earlier than 01 February 2013, then you must study the last three years of high school education in a foreign country; whereas you must fulfill your education entirely in a foreign country, in case you have started your education later than the date in question.

3. I am a Turkish citizen. I have graduated from a high school abroad, which is affiliated to the Turkish Ministry of Education. Can I apply as an international student?

Yes, you are eligible to apply as an international student as you have completed your high school education abroad.

4. I am a Turkish citizen by birth. I have graduated from a foreign high school in Turkey. Can I apply as an international student?

As you have completed your high school education in Turkey, your application as an international student will be considered invalid.

5. I have studied high school in Turkey. I have dual citizenship. I have lodged an application to renounce my Turkish citizenship. However, the process is not over yet. Is being a Turkish citizen during application a problem?

At the time of application, the process of renouncing your Turkish citizenship must be completed and you must be holding a Blue Card. Otherwise, your application will be deemed invalid.

6. I am a citizen of Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) and have no GCE A Level grades. Can I apply with SAT or ACT scores?

Those who have completed high school education in TRNC must first meet the minimum GCE A Level criteria as specified in the Directive, in order to be eligible to apply as an international student. In this case, the application you make with SAT or ACT scores will be considered invalid.

7. My GCE A Level (or IB) grades will be announced after the application deadline. How can I apply?

You can apply with your predicted grades that you will get from your school. However, in the event of admission, you will forfeit your right to register if you fail to meet your predicted grades.

8. Do you charge an application fee?

No, the application is free of charge.

9. Do I need to send the required documents by post after uploading them in the application system?

No, your application documents will be stored electronically. You do not need to send them by post.

However, in the event of admission, you must submit the original documents for registration procedures.

10. Can I send my application documents by e-mail?

No, documents sent via e-mail are not accepted. Applications that are not submitted through the online application system are not taken into consideration.

11. Do you need the original SAT score report mailed by ETS necessary during the application process?

No, it will suffice to upload the PDF print of your score during the application process. All documents are stored electronically. The original score report sent by ETS will be required for registration in case of your admission to the University.

12. Do you take SAT Subject Test scores into account in application?

No, only your SAT 1 score will be considered.

13. Is a language proficiency certificate required in the application process?

No, a language proficiency certificate is not required during application. However, in the event of your admission, you can submit your language proficiency certificate (if any) at the stage of registration to be exempt from the preparatory class. Your certificate will be evaluated by the School of Foreign Languages or Language Teaching, Application and Research Center (TÖMER) of Hacettepe University.

If you do not hold any kind of language proficiency certificate, you need to take the language proficiency exam depending on the medium of instruction in the program you are admitted to, which will be conducted by our university after the registration process.

14. I will not have received my high school diploma yet within the application dates. How can I apply?

You can use a document issued by your school indicating that you are in your last year of secondary education, or your expected date of graduation.

15. Will it help if I attach documents such as certificates of achievement that I have earned in different fields and recommendation letters to my application?

Only the required documents specified in our announcement are taken into consideration. Also, there are no fields in our application system where such additional documents can be uploaded. You can submit your additional documents to the Committee if you are invited for an interview.

16. Are Turkish citizens or holders of the Blue Card subject to any quota limits for application?

Yes. According to the decision of the Higher Education Council, the number of Turkish citizens by birth and holders of the Blue Card may not exceed 10% of those placed in the programs of the Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Dentistry, Faculty of Law, Faculty of Pharmacy and Faculty of Education. Students who certify their later acquisition of Turkish citizenship are not subject to this quota limit.

17. Are all students whose application is deemed valid invited for an interview?

No. Your rank and the quota of the respective program determine whether you will be invited for an interview for your preferred program. For a program, the number of candidates invited for an interview can be no more than three times the quota of the respective program.

18. How many programs can I choose in the application system?

You can choose up to 3 programs.

19. Is it possible to be invited for an interview for more than one program?

Yes, you may be invited for an interview for more than one program.

20. Is it possible to get admission for more than one program?

No, you can get admission for only one program of your choice.

21. I was not invited for an interview. Does that mean I failed the initial assessment?

Yes, if you are not invited for an interview, it means you have failed to pass the first stage.

22. Where can I view the application results?

23. The medium of instruction of the department I apply to is 100% English. Do I need to learn Turkish in this case?

Yes, even if the medium of instruction is 100% English, you have to attend common required Turkish courses.

24. I am going to apply to the Faculty of Medicine. The medium of instruction is 100% English. Do I need to learn Turkish in this case?

Yes, even if the medium of instruction is 100% English, you have to attend common required Turkish courses. In addition, during your education, you will need to communicate with patients and other hospital employees in Turkish.

25. I am currently studying at a foreign university. Can I transfer to your university from abroad?

No, Hacettepe University does not accept transfers from universities abroad (including TRNC). However, you can apply as a first-time freshman student.

26. An education consultancy agent/company in my country told me that they are authorized by your University to collect and/or submit applications on my behalf, and they require a certain amount of money to do so. Is it true that you have representatives in foreign countries?

Please note that Hacettepe University does not collaborate/cooperate with any kind of private or public institutions, agents, or companies neither in Turkey nor abroad for the application process. Please do not trust anybody who claims otherwise, and do not make any payments, as it may endanger the submission of your application. Please keep in mind that Hacettepe University does not take any responsibilities in this regard.

 

 

SOCIAL AND FINANCIAL ISSUES

1. Are there dormitories at the University?

A limited number of accommodation services are provided in the Sıhhiye and Beytepe Campuses of our university, including dormitories for boys and girls, student houses, guest houses (https://www.hacettepe.edu.tr/yerleskede-yasam/barinma).

Application for accommodation is made through the dormitory application screen on the website of the Department of Health, Culture and Sports (SKS). It is obligatory to obtain a Hacettepe e-mail address and password for the application. (You can get your Hacettepe e-mail from https://portal.hacettepe.edu.tr/hesap/yeni-hesap/dogrulama)

Students who do not have a foreign ID number can get their Hacettepe e-mail address by contacting the IT Department (https://bidb.hacettepe.edu.tr/) by defining their passport number to the system instead of the foreign ID number.

The dormitory application can be made by logging into the dormitory application system from the SKS web page "student information system" screen (http://yurt2.hacettepe.edu.tr) with "username", e-mail address (without the @hacettepe.edu.tr extension) and "password" (password sent to you).

2. Do Turkish citizens or Blue Card holders pay any tuition fee?

Yes, Turkish citizens and Blue Card holders who have registered to our University as an international student as of 2021-2022 Academic Year pay the tuition fee as the other international students.

3. Does tuition fee include the costs for books, course materials and housing services?

No, the tuition fee does not include extra costs such as books, course materials and housing services.

4. Does Hacettepe University offer any scholarships to international students?

No, Hacettepe University does not offer any scholarships to international students.

5. What do I need to do to get a residence permit?

After the initial registration to the university, the list of documents required for a residence permit will be sent to your e-mail addresses. You can also find this list on our website. You must submit these documents to Student Affairs Office in person or by post within 30 days of your initial registration. The university submits your documents to the Provincial Directorate of Migration Management for your first residence permit application after the initial registration. However, students who fail to submit their documents within a month or will apply for a residence permit extension later during the study period should handle the residence permit process themselves.

6. Can I work while I am a student?

Foreign students attending an associate, undergraduate, graduate or postgraduate Programme in Turkey may work, provided that they obtain a work permit. However, the right to work for associate and undergraduate students starts after the first year(of their study). Work permit applications are made to the Ministry of Labor and Social Security.

 

 

EDUCATION

1. After being placed in a program, can I transfer to another program within the University?

Yes, if you are enrolled in a Bachelor's degree program, you can apply for a transfer after studying for at least two (2) semesters, or at least one (1) semester in the case of an associate degree program, provided that you have achieved a minimum 2.75/4 GPA and the program you wish to transfer to offers a quota to the program you are enrolled in.
